Bathroom Plumbing Issues That Shouldn't Be Ignored

Have you been putting off getting plumbing repairs fixed in your bathroom? This is not always the best decision. Without your bathroom in prime working order, your home would be in shambles!  Keeping your bathroom(s) plumbing system in working order is always a smart move. Here are some bathroom plumbing issues that are a common occurrence in most households.

Water Back Up

If water that is backing up into your sinks, tubs, or showers is coming from your washer, or worse, your toilet, you have a big problem and plumbing repair services are in your very near future. If you put off a needed repair like this it usually leads to unsanitary conditions all throughout your home. but it could also allow the situation to get even further out of hand, necessitating more expensive repairs brought on by waiting too long to call out your plumber.

Leaky Hot Water Heater Tank

Standing water around your water heater is never a good sign. and to make matters worse, a leaking hot water heater is sometimes hard to detect because the hot water heater itself is not located in an obvious place. This means that sometimes the problem goes undetected so long that the only real solution is to go ahead and replace the unit. The main cause of leaking water heaters is corrosion of the tank, usually due to poor maintenance and lack of regular flushing.

Bad Odors Coming From Pipes

Corrosion in your water heater or elsewhere in your home’s plumbing system can lead to a bad odor in your water coming through the taps of your sink or shower. However, it may also indicate the presence of bacteria in your hot water heater. Heat forces bacteria to regenerate quickly, and if you notice an odor that is unrelated to corrosion, it may be the case that the anodes in your hot water heater are malfunctioning and no longer providing a shield against bacteria. Anode replacement or even replacement of your entire hot water heater may be required.

Loud Plumbing

Any household shower heads, faucets or sinks that are making strange noises such as whistling, gargling, and clanking can signal trouble for your home's plumbing line system. Whistling noises may be caused by faulty water valves that require immediate plumbing repair work. Gargling can be a result of clogs and other obstructions in your drain line or pipe leading to said drain. A clanking noise is typically the result of a distressed valve that has suddenly stopped or closed unexpectedly.

Poor Water Quality

If you turn on your faucet tap and notice that the water coming from the tap is less than clear and a murky hue, then you may have a water quality issue and plumbing repairs may be in the cards. While in some cases of discolored water may just indicate that you have not used pipes in that particular area of your home for a while, it can also mean a sign of a serious water issue in your home. Rusty or cloudy  water is never normal. In some cases, old pipes in your home may need to be cleaned out. Also, if you have a water heater tank that is starting to corrode, it may also lead to murky water coming through the faucet tap.

Low Water Pressure

If you notice that your water doesn't have as much pressure in the kitchen/bathroom sink or the shower, then you may have a plumbing problem that you don't realize you have. When plumbing pipes become clogged or backed up, low water pressure tends to set in. Maybe you've noticed that your water is trickling instead of coming through as a powerful jet of water that it once did. Check your sink faucets and shower heads first. If water is still coming through the tap normally, then there is more than likely a deeper issue. It is possible then that you may need a pipe replacement. A licensed plumber can use camera inspection equipment to let you know exactly what the issue is and how he can go about fixing it.

Mold

Mold is unsightly. It is also a health risk that can affect air quality and cause respiratory problems. If you are seeing mold in your bathroom, it is the first sign of moisture accumulation. Water that has  pooled from a leak is usually the culprit. Mold you find anywhere in your bathroom means a leak in the plumbing system in most all cases. This is one plumbing repair you need to urgently get on quickly, along with finding any existing mold damage that can cause more issues down the road.

Uncomfortable Water Temperatures

If your water is too hot or too cold and this is not from you resetting your thermostat on your water heater tank, then you may have an issue with your tank that needs to be repaired or replaced. One of the most common issues involving hot water heater tanks is a spent heating element. If your heating element has burnt out, then your plumber will need to replace the element entirely. On rare occurrences, a faulty thermostat can be to blame, although it is a less common repair.

Toilet Troubles

If your toilet isn't flushing like normal or if it's running over onto the floor when you flush, then you have got an issue that requires plumbing repair. Although in most cases, a simple plunger may be able to remedy the situation temporarily. Sometimes plunging your toilet makes the problem worse by just forcing whatever obstruction is causing the overflow deeper into your pipe line system, where it can cause problems further. An inspection by a professional plumber is always the best idea.
