Inside of Your Home:

  • Ensure your drain hose is properly connected to the sump pump
  • Install yourself or have a sewer backflow valve installed by a plumbing technician, especially if sewage has ever backed up through your floor drain in the past.
  • Perform annual maintenance checks to make sure your sump pump is working by following these steps:
  • Remove cover from your sump pump pit
  • Slowly pour water directly into the pit
  • Fill the pit until water rises high enough for the sump pump to be activated
If these above steps do not get your sump pump back in working order, then it is time to call in a licensed plumber.

Outside of Your Home:

  • If  any of your trees are growing near the foundation of your home, remove them quickly as roots can cause cracks in the foundation walls allowing water to enter and eventually cause flooding
  • Install gutters and keep them clean and functional
  • Make sure that proper drainage occurs moving water flow away from the foundation of your home
  • If this doesn't fix the problem, install or have installed, downspout extensions, if water from the downspout collects near the foundation of your home
You could have some valid concerns regarding the potential failure of your sump pump, either now or in the near future. Your town water powered back-up sump pump is an option as well as having a back-up sump pump attached that run on batteries.

If water starts collecting in your basement or lower lying areas of your property, or if you need to force out any sewage waste water, Suburban Plumbing Experts will be happy to assist you with any sump pump repairs or installation.
